VUSD Golden West Groppetti Stadium

Golden West High School, North McAuliff Street, Visalia, CA, USA

This was a unique project for CMCS. The project was funded by the District, the State and the City. Additionally, community funds were continually being raised to add to the project while construction was underway. The project included the following:

  • Secure entrance with three ticket booths

  • Two restroom and concession buildings

  • All-weather track and field designed per the National Federation of State High School Associations requirements

  • Home grandstand

  • Press box

  • Visitors bleachers

  • Electric scoreboard

  • Parking lots

CMCS was hired to manage the original design and then all the changes that occurred due to increased availability of funds. The largest change was a full redesign of the track. CMCS hired the consultant and worked directly with the contractor to price and build the new track. All this while needing to have the project complete prior to the fall Homecoming football game!

The Visalia Community Stadium was constructed to hold 4'500 people on an existing high school campus. Therefore, all the issues of traffic control, tight lay-down areas, and a small footprint added to the challenging of meeting an abbreviated construction schedule.
